ArgoUML 0.29.x trunk

Preview and discussions of upcoming features in ArgoUML.

ArgoUML 0.29.x trunk

Postby ThomasNeustupny on 06 Aug 2009, 14:04

It's been several months now since 0.28 was released. And still it's not clear when 0.29.1 is coming, and what new stuff will be developed. Efforts were made in two areas: XML property panels and UML 2 support. (The long overdue work on undo/redo will be based on the UML 2 work, btw.) Thinks evolve slowly, but whenever there will be news, I'll post them here. Feel free to ask.

Yes, and we now made release 0.29.1, a first release with (very limited) first UML2 support!

ArgoUML 0.29.1 includes two implementations of the model subsystem: the known "UML1(.4)" implementation based on Netbeans MDR, and the new "UML2" implementation (we call it eUML) based on eclipse UML. Choosing beetween the UML1 and UML2 "mode" is done only via command line parameters at startup; two different start scripts are provided.

This is incomplete, unstable and needs not be reliably working. Have fun trying it, but don't use it for production!

In the meantime, 0.29.2 was released. We further developed the UML2 support. At this point I can promise that 0.29.3 will give you new things to try. Here are 2 more changes in 0.29.2:
- possibility to add menu items in explorer and diagram for module developers
- a first support for UML2 profiles (not yet usable)

Also it became clear that new XML based property panels and an enhanced API for module developers will be included in the next stable release 0.30.

ArgoUML 0.29.3 was released yesterday!

There are no visible changes so far, because the new property panels were not included, they still can be tested only inside an eclipse development environment. Java generics are now reverse engineered during Java source code import.

When running in UML2 mode (with the argouml2 start scripts), only the profile support has changed: the standard UML profile has become usable, also creating own profiles has become usable. Tagged values (stereotype properties) and the unapplying of metaclasses to stereotypes are still not working.

ArgoUML 0.30.ALPHA_1 was released (thus ending the 0.29.x trunk) --> entering alpha period, there's a feature freeze! Main new feature: completely rework of the property panels. They are now XML file based and have improved handling/features, give us feedback!

UML2 is incomplete and therefore only "hidden" within the 0.30 alpha/beta/final releases.

As soon as we enter beta period, there will be a separate topic for the 0.30 release. :-)

ArgoUML 0.30.ALPHA_2 was released. Bug fixes only, e.g. the appearance of packages in class diagrams.
